Acne and SmokingAcne is a very common problem which is faced by most of the people around the whole world. It is mostly a skin disease. Though, it is not that a serious threat to our health still it can cause a lot of problems. Tone of the major problems associated with acne is the various myths associated with acne. As acne hits the teenagers most so there are a lot of superstitions and misconceptions that fill their mind. One such misconception is that smoking causes acne. However statistical data from various surveys have proved that acne and smoking are not at all related and thus there is no chance that acne is caused because of smoking.
There are many types of acne that are caused due to various reasons. However, acne vulgaris is the main type of acne that is caused. The reasons that contribute for the condition of acne range from ultraviolet radiation, sweating, diet, menstruation, occupation and stress. Thus we can note that acne is not caused by smoking or anything of that sort. On contrary to that various studies have also shown the relation between acne vulgaris and smoking. Therefore the dilemma of the situation has created further confusions and the exact position is still not known.
Various surveys by scientists have concluded the fact that there is no connection between cigarette smoking and acne. However smoking can lead to other various skin problems but acne is a problem which is out of the scope of smoking. In one survey in Tehran Iran, a skin clinic was attended by about three hundred fifty people with acne vulgaris and the same number of persons with other skin diseases. In the waiting room a questionnaire of habits of smoking was completed by them. The results turned out to be against of habits of smoking and its relation with acne. A larger percentage of people showed negative results towards acne while they were chain smokers.
Now as smoking habits can be found in a wide range of about 15 to 45 years so there can be some exceptions where smoking habits have affected people with acne. However on a larger scale this is not the case and we can conclude that there is no relation between smoking habits and the problem of acne. In other words smoking habits do not support the cause of acne nor they make the condition of acne worse.
